Thoreau did this by simply saying that violence only causes more problems on top of the existing ones. King did this by bringing a large number of nonviolen t protestors to parade the streets, never smasher anyone, even if they were struck first. The men believed that violence would get them nowhere in their protesting and it would not be effective. Civil disobedience was a main view for both of them men. They both wrote from gaol for their courteous disobedience. Thoreau wrote about his night in jail for not having pay a tax that was organism used for unjust causes. He says in Civil noncompliance that he felt relieve staying that night in jail and everyone else was not. King broke sequestration laws against blacks and that is what caused him to end up in jail. Civil disobedience was a large part of how these men protested. Thoreau and King both believed that the makeup that governs the least governs the best. Thoreau doesnt expect a government tax people with ridiculous things and because putting them in jail for it. King doesnt postulate hundreds of laws segregating black people from everyone else.
